I Had Sex With Her For Several Hours – Man Who Raped Widow To Death Confesses

Widow Raped To Death In Ebonyi

A 34-year-old widow and mother of four, Mrs. Ogodo Egede, was allegedly raped to death by a 40-year-old man, Alex Nwabu, in Egwudunagu, Amachi community in Abakaliki local government area of Ebonyi state.
Nwabu had been sleeping with the woman, prior to the incident and was said to have threatened to kill her if she told anyone, The Nation reports.
According to a family source, when the suspect continued the act, the 13-year-old daughter of the widow threatened to expose him and he forced her to leave the house.
The girl ran to her grand-parents in the night because Nwabu threatened to kill her. She came to greet her mother in the morning but met her dead body. She consequently informed her grand-father,” the source said.
According to Chief Ogbonna Ogayi, the father of the deceased, he had told his daughter to come and stay in his house for proper care but she refused saying she didn’t want her late husband’s lineage to go into extinction.
He said his grand-daughter ran to him in the night and reported that Nwabu came to their house to harass their mother with a cutlass.
When Egede’s body was found, it was covered with bruises.
On hearing about the incident, the youths of the area were said to have mobilised a search party for Nwabu and found him in his father’s compound.
On interrogation, he admitted committing the crime, saying, “Mrs. Egede owed me N1, 500 which she refused to pay. I actually asked her for sex and she refused. I later forced her but I didn’t know she will die because I didn’t intend to kill her.
She struggled with me and I got angry and beat her up. I had sex with her for several hours.”
The corpse has been deposited at the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki (FETHA) mortuary while Nwabu has been detained at the Central Police Station in Abakaliki.
There seems to be no end in sight for rape cases. About two weeks ago, a 30-year-old woman was allegedly gang raped by four men in the Alapere area of Lagos state, though the police denied any knowledge of such a thing.
