Two more bodies have been pulled out from the water on Thursday, bringing to six the number of people killed when a helicopter flying from an offshore oil rig plunged into a lagoon at the Oworonshoki end of the third mainland bridge in Lagos.
Marine police and fishermen calling for body bags raced to a dock on Thursday and delivered the bodies of one black man and one white man.
Rescue officials confirmed they were the bodies of two people missing in Wednesday’s crash of a Sikorsky S-76C+ belonging to the Houston, Texas-based Bristow Group. The company said in a statement that preliminary information indicated 10 passengers and a crew of two were aboard.

Four bodies were recovered Wednesday, officials said after the helicopter crashed in the afternoon on approach to Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport, according to Bristow.

Six people are hospitalized with injuries, said spokesman Ibrahim Farinloye of the National Emergency Management Agency. One of the bodies is suspected to belong to the 26 years old pilot, while the other is said to be the other person that was also declared missing.

Meanwhile Bristow Helicopter Limited on Thursday promised to assist survivors and families of the dead victims of the ill-fated chopper that plunged into the lagoon Wednesday, August 12, 2015 in Lagos.

Bristow Regional Director for Africa Duncan Moore made the pledge in a statement in Lagos.
“Our thoughts are with those affected by the unfortunate accident. We regret the loss of lives in the air crash and we are ready to assist them with our full resources.
“Our highest priority is to take care of our crew and clients and their family members and provide them with any assistance needed.
“Our personnel are currently working to confirm the number of people on board, their identities and the extent of any injury,” he said.

Moore said the company was fully co-operating with appropriate authorities that were investigating the incident.
